Welcome to Brighton Philharmonic’s 2023-24 Season, our 99th!

As we gear up for our centenary next year, we welcome you to a wonderful season of music and creativity!

The Brighton Philharmonic has been performing in Brighton for 99 years, and our concerts are for everyone

This year I’m delighted to welcome new young soloists: conductors Adam Hickox, Clark Rundell and Geoffrey Paterson, acclaimed singers Dorothea Herbert and Ellie Laugharne, and violin virtuoso Ragnhild Hemsing.

We open with a bang, with John Adams’ dynamic Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Sian Edwards returns with Sibelius’ glorious Symphony no.2, paired with Arvo Pärt

BPO is joined by the best of British jazz, led by saxophonist Andy Sheppard, in an exciting night of Deep South music and Moondog. Our imaginative, innovative programming continues to unfold.

Wagner’s Dream showcases music from The Ring, alongside Berio’s gorgeous Folk Songs; A Mighty River celebrates Florence Price and Errollyn Wallen; Stravinsky and Kurt Weill reside in Brighton’s Corn Exchange; and Debussy’s La Mer complements a Norwegian fiddle concerto, Three Fjords.

Look out for Christmas treats, too: Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, this year performed in Kemptown, and Viennese classics to ring in the New Year.

Joanna MacGregor CBE , Music Director
